ABOUT

Tom Haines is a UK-based composer, arranger, band-leader and educator specialising in original large-ensemble Jazz, bespoke music and sound design for dance/physical theatre, and solo piano music.

Tom has won multiple international jazz composing / arranging awards in Canada, Sardinia, Italy, Denmark, UK and Belgium.
 

In 2020, his work 'A Tall Tale' was nominated for an Ivor Novello Composer Award in the jazz composition for large ensemble category.   Whilst he was also commissioned to compose new music for the Olso Jazz Ensemble.

In 2019/2020, Tom was awarded a 'Developing Your Creative Practice' grant from the Arts Council of England to establish links with leading jazz composers and ensembles in Germany and Norway, and to create new works for large jazz ensemble.

Tom has had works performed by big bands and jazz orchestra around the world, including; The Orchestre National de Jazz de Montréal (Canada), Fukuda-Gumi (Japan), Jazz Orchestra della Sardegna (Italy), The El Camino College Jazz Orchestra (USA), Queen's University Jazz Ensemble (Canada), Brussels Jazz Orchestra (Belgium), The Pagsberg Big Band & The Vocals (Denmark), Barga Jazz Orchestra (Italy), The National Youth Jazz Orchestra (UK), The Leeds Conservatoire Contemporary Jazz Orchestra (UK), The Birmingham Jazz Orchestra (UK), Walsall Jazz Orchestra (UK) and productions.

Bespoke compositions and artistic consultancy for dance and physical theatre have seen him work with and commissioned by DanceFest, Highly Sprung Performance Company, Upswing Aerial Dance Company, The National Youth Ballet of Great Britain, Ascension Dance, BeingFrank Physical Theatre, Warwick Arts Centre, Boys Dancing, and Adam Rutherford Dance Company.
